My Quest for Balance: Scheduling

If you are anything like me, you’re a mom with a laundry list of things to do.  Speaking of laundry, I need to put up those clothes sitting on my couch, but I digress.  So you have this long list and you know once you get started you will be okay.  If only you can just get over this feeling of intense overwhelm… you will be okay.

I want you to know you’re not alone.  I am on a quest for balance and I invite you to take this journey with me.  I will share with you what is working for me and what is not and I invite you to share as well.

They say “Rome was not built in a day” but a “Journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” so today is our first step.

Today, I sat down and wrote out my schedule. Then I created another schedule with 2, 3 or 4 hour blocks.  I made a two rules for myself:

  1. Only one theme or thing in each block.  For example “Grooming” is a theme that encompasses everything from shower to brushing teeth, washing your face and changing your clothes.
  2. No half or one hour blocks allowed (no 15 minutes, no 30 minutes, no 45 minutes, no 60 minutes).  I know, crazy right!  All that wasted time!!  So Why?  Because if you are like me you are always tempted to fit too much into your schedule which has been leading to overwhelm.  Give it a try.

Here is a copy of some blank schedules in case you want to download and play around with them.

I’ll keep you posted on how I’m doing.
