Psalms 37:4 Delight Thyself

I have been waiting all week to get to Psalms 37:4

“Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

This is by far one of my favorite verses in the Bible.

To delight means “something that gives great pleasure”.  God is saying that He want’s us to find great pleasure or “a high degree of gratification” in Him.  When we do this He promises to give us the desires of our hearts.

I love this passage because it was the verse I claimed when I was seeking a spouse.  I have now been married 12 years but before I met my love I wanted so badly to share my life with someone.

I was led to this verse and it was like God whispered to me, just delight in me and I will take care of your desires“.  And I did.  I was heavily involved in ministry and had a strong devotional life.  So much so that when my now hubby came on the scene, I didn’t pay him any mind at first.

Then God took it from there.  My husband pursued me and I fell in love and the rest is history.

I don’t know what the desires of your heart are but commit them to God (we will cover that in Psalms 37:5), find your delight in Him and He will bring them to pass.

Today, as we write Psalms 37:4 on our hearts, let us ask God to help us to find true joy and delight in spending time with Him.
