Psalms 37:5 Commit Thy Way

Yesterday we learned that we need to delight ourselves in the Lord and He will give us the desires of our hearts (Psalms 37:4).  I believe this verse is equally as important.

“Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass” (Psalms 37:5).

We all have plans and desires but God wants us to commit it to Him.  Commit means “to pledge or bind (a person or an organization) to a certain course or policy”.  So in other words, God is asking us to pledge or bind our plans to Him, His course, His will.  When we do this and trust in Him, He shall bring it to pass.

Wow!

Guaranteed success!

Some elements that stood out to me in this verse was that first our plans must be committed to Him and His will.  So that means we must spend time with God to get to know Him and to also pledge our plans to Him.

Second, we need to trust in God. We have made our plans, we have spent time with Him to commit them to Him and now we need to trust God to do what He has revealed He is going to do.

Finally, we know that He will bring it to pass.  It will happen!

This verse is powerful to me right now!  God has placed so many desires in my heart for my family, for my community and for His Kingdom.  More specifically, I have been led to homeschool my kids (I have been doing it for 7 years now) and more recently, working more for myself instead of for a school system so that I can give my kids my best.

I committed my way to the Lord and felt led to this path that I am on.  However, it is a rough path.  I have found myself wanting to go back to the easy road and almost went there but then it was revealed that I did not trust in God to bring it pass.  So here I am recommitting my way to Him and trusting in Him and claiming God’s promise that He will bring it all to pass.

Today, as we write Psalms 37:5 on our hearts, let us ask God to help us commit our ways to Him and to trust in Him.
